Diary of an Indie Hacker — Entry 1: Four commits, one very long day
We kept a private build diary for ten months. Now we're publishing it, one day at a time — starting with launch day.

This is the first entry in a serialized build diary. We're a small team building an AI content tool, and we've kept a private journal of every working day since we started — ~200 entries across ten months. Starting today, we're publishing it one day at a time, exactly as it happened, adapted and lightly edited for privacy. Names of people, users, and vendors are removed; the mistakes are not.
Day one. We shipped the MVP.
Not a polished MVP — the kind where you know exactly which parts will embarrass you later. But it existed, and that was the point. One video in, clips out. Everything else was ambition.
Same day, we also threw out the UI and rebuilt it, inspired by a podcast-editing tool we admired. That probably sounds insane — redesigning on launch day — but the first version looked like a database admin panel and we knew nobody would give it a second chance. Users don't read your roadmap. They glance at your landing page for four seconds and decide if you're real.
By end of day: progress indicators, AI-generated titles, project management, and a spec for the feature we actually believed in — clip customization. Four commits. One very long day.
Next entry: the "6 issues" sprint — the boring morning that made the next ten months possible.
